Topic
Approaches to Supporting Complex Families through ReAttach and NVR.
Abstract
This workshop offers a structured introduction to the use of ReAttach therapy alongside Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) when working with families experiencing severe behavioural challenges. Workshop focuses on cases of supporting complex family dynamics marked by destructive and violent behaviours, across family homes and residential childcare settings. Led by specialist practitioners Kerry Shoesmith and Amy Howell, the session provides practical insights for those who work closely with children, adolescents, and families navigating challenging circumstances.
The session will begin with an overview of ReAttach and its complementary role within an NVR framework.
Participants will explore case studies from Kerry and Amy’s work in therapeutic care, which include situations where families and carers have faced prolonged behavioural crises, resulting in residential placements and multi-agency interventions. These examples will demonstrate how Reattach has been successfully integrated to support parents.
The workshop will feature a live demonstration, showing how ReAttach techniques are applied in practice. This session will illustrate practical methods for promoting emotional resilience, regulation and increased resource and optimism.
There will be an opportunity for questions and answers.
