The announcement and sit-in also call for courageous teachers: what do they need?
Abstract
The announcement and sit-in are the focus of the workshop. We reflect on the objections/concerns teachers often have about these two interventions, and then reflect together on what they need to have the courage to do the intervention. We share the announcement as we use it. We practice in a role-play how we apply the announcement and sit- in in practice (we also do this with the teachers in our training). A teacher once said emotionally after practicing the announcement. ‘I had resolved to play a rebellious student, but I couldn’t manage to be rebellious. I felt that these people are there for me. I wish this for every child.’
Encourage participants to apply the announcement and sit-in in teaching. And when mentoring teachers: what does the teacher need from you to do these two interventions?
